The original lava lamps designed by the inventor of lava lamps and founder of Mathmos, Edward Craven Walker. Astro was launched in 1963 and Astro Baby a year later. These classic lava lamps have been in continuous British production ever since.
The first and original lava lamp designed by Edward Craven Walker the founder of Mathmos and inventor of lava lamps. The Mathmos Astro is a Pop Design classic and has been in continuous British production since 1963. This range of Astro lava lamps are hand polished by British craftsmen who bring the top quality spun aluminium to a high silver shine.
This range of Astro’s has hand-spun copper anodised metal, the finish originally used for the Astro in the 1960s and ‘70s. It looks as fresh today as it did in 1963 when it first rolled off the production line in Poole, Dorset. Available in ten lava colour combinations all with Mathmos’ unique lava lamp formulation. Replacement parts for this design classic are available from Mathmos for Astro’s bought in the 1960s right through to the present day.
Handspun and anodised in Dorset and filled with Mathmos’ unique lava lamp formula there is a huge choice of colour combinations available in this classic British design. Replacement parts are available from Mathmos on an ongoing basis for products bought in the 1960s right through to the present day.
NB: this lamp will be delivered with a white cable and black feet.

The classic rocket shaped lava lamp, now in 8 colour combinations all with Mathmos’ unique formulation.
The Telstar was inspired by the space race fever that gripped the 1960s. Telstar legs are precision cast and then chromed and embossed with the Mathmos logo. Telstar bottles are hand filled in Mathmos’ British factory with our unique long-lasting lava lamp formula developed by our founder and inventor of the lava lamp Edward Craven Walker. Each Telstar is individually inspected and tested to ensure that our lava lamps are the best quality available. Spare parts, including bulbs, are available from Mathmos on an ongoing basis.
Telstar rocket lava lamp is made of precision cast metal finished in a high shine black nickel plate, one leg is embossed with the Mathmos logo. Mathmos Telstar bottles are hand filled in our factory with our unique long-lasting lava lamp formula developed by our founder, Edward Craven Walker, choose from 8 colour combinations. Spare parts, including bulbs, are available from Mathmos on an ongoing basis.
This version of Mathmos’ classic Telstar rocket lava lamp is made of precision cast metal finished in neon orange with chrome legs. Launched in the mid-1990s Telstar has been a Mathmos best seller ever since. Spare parts, including bulbs, are available from Mathmos on an ongoing basis ensuring Telstar can always be reconditioned and never needs to find its way into landfill.
